On Tuesday, June 21st, skateboarders in New York City and around the world will hit the streets to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day through a series of independently run regional events. Now in its eighth year, Go Skateboarding Day is an annual occurrence that has become universally recognized as the “Official Holiday of Skateboarding.”
Each year in New York City, 5boro Skateboards organizes and runs what is arguably the largest Go Skateboarding Day event in the world – with this year’s event slated to be bigger and better than ever before.
Led by Steve Rodriguez, NYC’s 2011 Go Skateboarding Day is made possible through generous support from Presenting Sponsors Maloof Money Cup and 5boro Skateboards, Supporting Sponsors Vans, Volcom, Red Bull and CCS, and non- profit community partner, the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn.
“With help from our dedicated sponsors we were really able to step it up this year to make it more of a city-wide happening with events in three of New York City’s five boroughs,” says Steve Rodriguez. “We’ll start off at Maloof Cup Park in Queens, hit the LES Skatepark in Manhattan, and end the day in Brooklyn at McCarren Park. Hopefully next year we can get Staten Island and the Bronx involved as well, and give the New York City Marathon a run for its money!”
Several thousand local skaters are expected to participate in this year’s festivities, with special appearances by a variety of top pros and ams from 5boro, Vans, Volcom, Red Bull and CCS. Throughout the day live music will be provided by Red Bull’s acclaimed DJ squad, a massive product toss will take place, and several “Best Trick” contests will be held with $5,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. Plus, for the first time ever, a special edition NYC Go Skateboarding Day ‘zine will be distributed free to participants.

World’s Greatest Skateboarding Event Returns to New York June 4-5… Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Dennis Busenitz among Competing Pros!
The Maloof Money Cup presented by Vans and airing live on FUEL TV announces the roster of pro street skaters who will compete at the first Maloof Money Cup event of 2011 in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York June 4-5.
“This is really top to bottom the best group of skateboarders in the world,” said Joe Maloof, Maloof Money Cup founder and owner of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. “The depth and breadth of this roster is the best yet for a Maloof contest – from the best rookie pros to the most dominating and respected pros over the last decade – it’s a wide open field and really anyone’s to win.”
MMC NY PRO STREET ROSTER (in alphabetical order)
Vincent Alvarez, Brian Anderson, Mike Anderson, Tom Asta, Zered Bassett, Theotis Beasley, Caswell Berry, Taylor Bingaman, Justin Brock, Dennis Busenitz, Jimmy Carlin, Danny Cerezini, Jack Curtin, Ryan Decenzo, Dustin Dollin, Corey Duffel, Jake Duncombe, Adam Dyet, Pete Eldridge, Sierra Fellers, Chima Ferguson, Justin Figueroa, David Gravette, Emmanuel Guzman, Bryan Herman, Garrett Hill, Jordan Hoffart, Stefan Janoski, Cory Kennedy, Johnny Layton, Greg Lutzka, Nick Merlino, Matt Miller, Chris Pfanner, Collin Provost, Alex Olson, Eli Reed, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Omar Salazar, Manny Santiago, Keegan Sauder, Shuriken Shannon, Darrell Stanton, Rodrigo Teixeira, Nick Trapasso, Tony Trujillo, Brandon Westgate & Bobby Worrest.
“This year, we are unveiling a new head-to-head jam format,” said Mark Waters, newly named Director of Maloof Money Cup. “It creates the fastest pace for the contest while still encouraging skateboarding progression. There is no penalty for missed tricks, but greater difficulty will result in higher scores. Just like skateboarding on the street, with this format guys won’t be able to play it safe. They’ll be constantly pushing progression and that’s why the energy of a Maloof contest, and the level of skating displayed, is like nothing else out there.”
Offering an increased first place cash prize of $160,000, the New York contest will take place on the pro skater designed street course featuring iconic New York skate spots that was built for the contest last year and left as a permanent skate park for the community after the event. Tickets are on sale now at maloofmoneycup.com. The Maloof Money Cup festival village will feature the most notable skate brands in the industry offering giveaways, activities for all ages and autograph signings. The festival village will also feature DJs, food and a Jumbotron showing live video of the contest. Admission to the festival village is free.
Cole to Skate for $1 Million in Orange County
Last year, Joe Maloof offered a $1 million bonus to any pro who could win four consecutive Maloof Money Cup contests. Chris Cole will compete for the million dollar bonus at the Maloof Money Cup Orange County contest, which will include the Maloof All Pros, the skaters whose combined scores from New York and Washington D.C place them in the top 16. If Cole beats the field, he’ll claim $250,000, the largest first place prize of any contest – plus a million dollar bonus – for a total payday of more than $1.25 million; by far the biggest payout the skateboarding world has ever seen.
“I’m excited to skate Maloof Money Cup Orange County for a shot at a million dollars,” said Chris Cole. “It’s going to be a tough competition, but just to have this chance is unbelievable. This is such a positive thing for skateboarding. Something like this has never been done and I’m just grateful to the Maloofs for the opportunity.”
“Even though Chris signed an exclusive agreement with another contest, we felt that this is such a huge milestone for skateboarding that nothing else matters. This is an incredible opportunity and one we hope will bring attention to the skateboarding industry and these incredible pros who have dedicated their lives to skateboarding,” said Maloof. “The only thing better than one skater going for a million, is two. By moving Chris’ million dollar contest to Orange County, there’s an opportunity for another pro to win three Maloof Money Cup events this year, making them eligible to compete, alongside Chris, for the $1 million bonus in Orange County,” said Maloof.

Quicksilver is putting the finishing touches on their latest skate park: Door 33.
Commisioning skatepark builder Brent Kronmueller, Quicksilver is making their latest creation bigger and badder than anything to date. Tony sticks to a pretty small area, since he’s primarily a vert skater. If you want to see some more of the new park, check out Quicksilver’s Youtube page.
It’s not often you get to see the world’s most famous skateboarder shred smaller transitions but Quiksilver’s Door 33 training facility in the US seems to be getting a whipping from their team this year.

Javier Mendizabal, Christian Cortizo, Dominik Dietrich, the UK’s Ross McGouran, Ignacio Morata, Manuel Margreiter and Daniel Cardone all feature in this latest Quiksilver edit of the team skating through the main gateways to Southern China.
